The High School to College Athlete
This summer get a jump start on the college application process as a student and an athlete. If you want to compete in your sport at the collegiate level and are at the beginning stages or have not yet started your college search process, then this workshop is for you.
As a Student
As a student, you will come away knowing which of the many campus environments you like, an understanding of the complete application process, a draft of your personal statement, an activities resume, and answers to the questions you have about applying to college. This section is led by Jen Rucier of College Search Solution.
As an Athlete
As an athlete, you will leave knowing the different regulations for each of the three NCAA Divisions. You will understand NCAA eligibility, the steps to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse, protocol on talking with coaches, and how to get recruited (get noticed). You will develop an athlete resume to send to coaches and learn what the time commitment looks like in college versus high school. This section is led by Kate Brooks, a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Villa Academy and former NCAA Rowing Coach.
You may also register for the optional third hour of the workshop, Fitness and Nutrition Essentials for the Student-Athlete. Each day will focus on body mechanics and conditioning moves that will improve your strength, agility, and endurance. Proper nutrition and how to eat wisely in the college cafeteria will also be included. This section is led by John Brooks, National Strength and Conditioning Certified Personal Trainer.
“Kate Brooks has been instrumental to our daughter’s experience as an athlete throughout middle and high school. When the time came to unravel the mysteries of pursuing a college experience as an athlete, the first person we called was Kate. She helped us navigate through the process, fine-tune our decision-making and ultimately celebrated with us as things unfolded. We honestly could not have done it without her.”
